Some years ago, an anxious student was given a challenge to create a toy. Determination to fulfill the brief and ensure the possibility reached actualization was of the utmost importance to them due to its perceived potential.

From this, the FRET KNOT emerged. Their design intention was to create a tactile yet discreet tool to ease minds, steady hands, or inspire your own form of curiosity. With the assistance of their woodworking father, three prototypes came to life. In a triumphant return after product testing and development, the FRET KNOT is available to all, thanks to a collaboration with Hedge Studio.

Each one is lovingly handmade with assorted sustainably sourced and naturally finished hardwoods. With over two dozen finishing & assembly steps, we continue our efforts of streamlining the process with custom solutions so we may offer the tool at an accessible price.

How do we achieve this? It is made possible due to Hedge Studio's commitment to ethical practices. The hardwood that makes up the five components of the FRET KNOT derives from the trimmings of larger projects. Pieces that many might consider waste can be saved and even utilized to highlight beautiful ‘imperfections’ like knots or anomalous grains.
